Dear Chelsea Elementary Families,
May has arrived and I am sure everyone is enjoying the warmer weather and longer evenings. In April, we were pleased to host the Hadley-Philemon Band for an afternoon concert. This was a great experience for our students and highlights the music opportunities that are available in high school. We always have several Chelsea alumni in the band and we love seeing them return to perform.
Several Field trips will be taking place in May and June so please keep your eye out for permission forms. All volunteers on trips must have a valid security clearance with the school board. If you haven’t completed a background check previously, please visit the office for paperwork. The process is free and will allow you to join an outing.
This month we will be hosting two local mural artists, Jimmy Baptist and Stephanie Babij, for a community art project. The theme for the project is Inclusion, Representation and Belonging. You can expect to hear stories from of your children about the walls in the Grand Hall transforming into an art piece that highlights these school values! This project follows on the heels of our Diversity Literacy Project, led by Fatemeh Anvari, who is introducing literature to classes which explores and celebrates the various forms of diversity.
The value for the month of May is cooperation! Please join us in highlighting the ways that cooperation and teamwork makes the impossible possible! May is also Asian Heritage month, a time to learn about and celebrate the history and contributions of Asian Canadians.
